Madeleine L'Engle's book was published in 1962 and became instant children's classic, winning the Newbery Award, Sequoyah Book Award, and Lewis Carroll Shelf Award and since that time has gone on to be adapted into plays, an opera, a graphic novel, a television show and now a feature film.
